The Experience ~ I first hear about this mascara from a good friend of mine, who absolutely raved about it. Usually it’s the other way around with the recommendations coming from me, but I’m glad she told me about it. I’m always on the lookout for THE mascara. Volume, definition and long wear are at the top of my list, but length and curl never hurt.
The packing is cute, a metallic purple tube which I find to be distinctive without being outrageous. The wand is something that’s unique (at least in the Canadian market). It’s long with multiple curves, which at first look very awkward, but in fact I found it very maneuverable. The bulb shape at the end of the wand makes easy work of those fine inner lashes, and grabs the outermost without snagging the skin.
The formulation of the mascara has been great so far. The texture is very smooth without being too wet or too thick. My experience has shown this mascara to be very build'able, while still maintaining definition. In terms of scent it is very mild, which is a nice change from many of the heavy chemical scents of other mascaras.
Length, volume, definition and a slight curl were all achieved with this product. The curl was not huge, but I probably wouldn’t curl my lashes separately when using this product. For the first time I experienced the false lash look, without using false lashes. Building up the layers (I did not let it dry between) allows for some major lashes, and I was very, very pleasantly surprised. My only negative for this product is that I did experience the dreaded raccoon eyes when I wore it on my lower lashes.
Price ~ $5.99 CDN (on sale at SDM - regularly a dollar or so more)
Pros ~ volume, definition, mild scent, price
Cons ~ not long wearing on lower lashes

Product Name ~ Primordiale Eye Skin Recharge
Product Description (from packaging) ~ Visibly Smoothing & Renewing Eye Treatment
As the aging process begins, your skin’s celluar activity slows down, resulting in rough and uneven skin texture, and the appearance of fine lines around the eye contours. From Lancôme, a daily eye cream to visible smooth and renew skin, restoring it’s youthful look and vitality.
The Experience ~ I picked up this eye cream at a gift with purchase event a few weeks ago. I figured that it was a good time to try and line, and I’ve been looking for a new eye cream to help in the fight against fine lines.
The formulation is quite nice. It’s a very rich cream, but it’s not heavy. It absorbs quickly and easily into the skin, without leaving any residue. There is a floral scent though, which I don’t think is a good idea for an eye cream, due to possible sensitivities.
Overall, I think it’s a quality product and is definitely something for people who are pro anti-aging, but don’t have mature skin yet. The price is steep however, and I think that would be the primary turn off for most people. However, Lancôme is known for their skin care and has the quality to back up the name. I would recommend asking for a sample if you’re interested, to see if it would be worth the investment.
Price ~ $70 CAD
Pros ~ rich formulation, absorbs easily, feels light on the skin, noticeable difference in skin texture, slight difference in line visibility
Cons ~ price, fragrance
So it's been a while since I've posted something, and I don't think there's really any reason for it. I've had a couple of looks that I just need to put together, which is just me being lazy. There are even a few entry ideas floating around in my head for reviews and opinions.
To do:
review ~ eye cream- review ~ exfoliator
- opinion ~ primer
- opinion ~ botulism toxin (yep, I want to talk about botox)
- seek/rant ~ moisturizer
Hopefully putting this up, will keep me focused on knocking out some posts. For those of you that read, I apologize for my slack-ittude.
Product Name ~ Double Decker Beauty Palette (Piccadilly Punk)
Product Description (from Quo packaging) ~ Quo Double Decker Beauty Palette holds everything you’ll ever need for your eyes, cheeks and lips! The top holds four silk smooth shadows, and hidden underground are two luscious lip colours and one perfect shade of blush! (from cinnamon kitten) ~ Piccadilly Punk, inspired by the colour grey. Cool metallic undertones and evasive, medium greys and petrol blues combined with intense rich purple. The lip and blush colours shift to pinks, crimson and rubies for a feminine touch.
The Experience ~ This palette is available in two colour stories: Piccadilly Punk (greys w/ purple) and Trafalgar Square Bare (earthy neutrals) and is exclusive to Shoppers Drug Mart. I heard about this product on one of the makeup communities I frequent, and after visiting a few stores I finally found them in stock. I swatched both palettes in the store, and my first inclination was towards Trafalgar Square Bare since I adore golds/olives/neutral s. However, since I have so many shadows like that, I went for Piccadilly Punk instead.
Starting from the top left and working clockwise:
Level One: Eyeshadows
dark grey with gold, almost rusty shimmer
metallic silver, with blue undertones
gunmetal grey, with silvery blue shimmer
vibrant warm purple, with red undertonesLevel Two: Lip Gloss & Blush
pink'ish plum, with gold shimmer (gloss)
red'ish berry, with cool undertones (gloss)
cool pink, with slight silver sheen (blush)
The texture of the eye shadow is very soft, while retaining good pigmentation. I felt like the dark grey and the gunmetal gray were too soft, and required a much lighter hand to minimize the fallout. The silver and purple however, were amazing and very easy to work with and blend.
The glosses are sheer, but they do have enough pigmentation for there to be a visible change in lip colour. Both of the colours go on smoothly (with a lip brush), they last well (without eating) and to my delight, they are not sticky at all.
The blush is a very nice texture, it goes on more like a cream and isn’t at all chalky. I think this would be a lovely light flush for someone with a light skin tone, but for someone who is mid-range and darker it would probably serve better as a highlighting contour.
Overall, I’m very pleased with the palette. I feel that the quality is pretty good for a drug store brand, and the price is amazing, given what is included. It would have been nice to see some other colour options, but I think it’s a good start and I hope that Quo continues to expand this aspect of their line.
Price ~ $20 CAD
Pros ~ colour coordination, good wear time, packaing, price, product texture
Cons ~ only two palettes available, shimmery shadows give some fallout

Product Name ~ O-Gloss Intuitive Lip Gloss
Product Description (from Smashbox website) ~ Get a shiny pink pout all your own! The first intuitive lip gloss, this innovative formula goes on clear and then reacts with your personal skin chemistry to instantly transform into your own custom shade of pink. O-GLOSS is packed with our exclusive microcirculating Goji Berry-C Complex™ and ginkgo biloba, pomegranate seed antioxidants, revitalizing marine botanicals and moisturizing avocado oil for lustrous shine.
The Experience ~ I have been looking for another gloss, but something I could wear on a more regular basis that could work with all sorts of looks. I was at SDM a few days ago and saw O-Gloss in the Smashbox display, and since I'd see it online I figured I'd give it a swatch. It goes on clear, and then transforms to a custom shade of pink. I liked what I saw, so I picked it up.
I've worn it a few times, and I like that based on how much I apply the colour can be very subtle or surprisingly intense. It goes on very smoothly, with no noticeable scent or taste. The product comes in a squeeze tube, but I've applied it with a brush for more precision. I also chose to use a brush because of the fact that the gloss is clear in the tube, but as soon as it touches the skin it starts to change colour - and I didn't want to get the pink mixed in with the clear.
It it a slight bit sticky, but compared to a lot of other glosses , O-Gloss is pretty low on the sticky scale, without being completely smooth. By no means is it a long wear gloss, but I've found that even after drinking/eating that it leaves a light stain of colour, so your lips aren't left looking naked.
Price ~ $26 ($22 USD)
Pros ~ custom colour, lightweight, lasts well for a gloss, not very sticky
Cons ~ price, packaging
Rating ~ 4.5/5
